As I get older I find that the traditions I grew up with have become more important. With the passing of my grandparents and now the passing of our uncle Jimmy in February, I see that things can end in the blink of an eye. I want my children and now my precious Calvin to know what these traditions are so that they carry them and the memories with them. This year marked our second Halloween with Calvin. Last year was our first time ever to visit a pumpkin patch. It wasn't a thing when our kids were small. Yesterday we took Calvin for his second trip. This is something that I want to last and whether he is our only grandchild or the oldest of several, I want to make it something we do that his generation.
This was also our second year of trunk or treat at Salem. Last year we went as construction workers for HEMCO. This year I pulled from my hope chest a bumble bee costume worn by Staley when she was 2. To be able to put that on Calvin and know that I made it and it had stood the test of time was so special. Behind that ability to create that costume was my grandmother who patiently taught me how to follow a pattern and create something like this. I do not know what I would have done without her. Because of many of her traditions, I was able to add to my little book of creativity. Now I just pray I do her justice
